Blind dates are always a little nerve wrecking. Could the person be crazy? What if they don’t show up? Would they even like me? But… something amazing could happen. What if they actually are everything you’ve been looking for? What if all the stars align that night and you find it? You find true love…
You see, Lorvana had a cousin that was playing matchmaker for her. The cousin worked with Jay (her blind date victim) and was quizzing him on all sorts of questions like “are you single?”, “do you have any kids?”. Naturally, he was a bit taken aback as to where this was headed because little did he know it was a setup to meet his beautiful, sweet, future wife.
Lorvana has always been quiet and shy, maybe a little guarded. When she found out about the blind date, she wasn’t even sure she wanted to go because it’s really easy to make excuses in situations that aren’t guaranteed to be comfortable. But thank heavens she dug up the courage to go!
Their date started off really slow and some would say a bit awkward. What do you say to someone that you’ve never met and ultimately know nothing about?! Her shy nature really captured Jay’s attention. “I wanted to get to know her better and break through all of her layers” he said. “I thought she was the most mystical and beautiful woman I had ever met.” A real Haitian beauty.
Fast forward to Thanksgiving of 2017. Everyone is conversing and laughing, just enjoying eachother’s company. Both of their families had come together to spend this special holiday together. Little did they know just how special it would become! So, here is Lorvana in the kitchen cooking the Thanksgiving feast for everyone and she gets called into the living room along with the rest of her family. Nervous but excited, Jay can’t help but confess how much he loves her, as he gets down on one knee and proposes. Lorvana’s response is one that really tickles me. With her eyes lovingly gazed on her future husband, she says “What took you so long?”
The Wedding Day
On 8-18-18 Lorvana and Jay tied the knot with us at A Place in the Vineyard. Men tend to think that they will have a hard time remembering the date of their wedding. I mean who is going to forget 8-18-18? It has such a great ring to it, doesn’t it?
Their wedding really embraced the Haitian culture. A lot of their special wedding touches gave a nod to the Haitian tradition. During the wedding ceremony, Jay took a wash bucket and carefully washed Lorvana’s feet as a symbol of his dedication to her as a loving and providing husband. The silence of the crowd during this ritual was very moving and humbling. How often have you washed someone’s feet other than your own? Yea, me neither. The act is very selfless and such an honor to watch. I’ve picked some of my favorite pictures from their wedding. These really showcase their love and adoration for each other and I am just so overwhelmingly happy for them. I know they have a long, winding road of love ahead.
